Worldwide GZB Prayer Day

Dear partner,

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV)

As partners in Christ we form one body. When the other is suffering, we pray with him. When he or she is cheerful, we praise together God’s name.

The Church in the Netherlands needs your prayers a lot. On Saturday, 13 June, the annual GZB Day takes places where 2000 people will gather together to get encouraged and inspired by stories from the Threatened Church in the Middle East. Theme of this year is: “Don’t let the Church disappear!”

We would like to set this day apart to pray for the Church in the Netherlands and the work of the GZB. It will be a big encouragement for all our congregations to know that brothers and sisters worldwide are praying for us in their churches, houses and offices.

To encourage you to pray for us, we send you this prayer bulletin. Feel free to forward this email to your fellow colleagues!

Many blessings!

GZB team

Pray for a beautiful day with a lot of visitors. Pray that they will be encouraged by the stories from Egypt, where Christians in a minority position can still have a significant impact on society. Pray also for the children and teenagers in their own programmes and the volunteers who are involved in this.
Threatened Church in Egypt
• Around 10 percent of the Egyptian population is Christian. Pray for a living faith and a revival in the Egyptian churches.

• Pray for the Egyptian youth. Many of them loose their faith and become atheist. On the other hand, there are young people who are touched by the Gospel, even though their families and friends do not accept.
• Pray for the 25 people who work at the GZB office in Driebergen. Pray for guidance and wisdom through the Holy Spirit.

• Pray for our mission workers. Sometimes they face big challenges in the implementation of their work. Pray for protection, perseverance and faithfulness to their mission.

• Pray that more people will be called to serve the Church abroad. In the field or by supporting the work financially. Pray for enough funds to continue our ministry.
The Netherlands
According to a recent survey, more than half of the Dutch population calls himself atheist or agnost. Moreover, it is the first time that there are more people who do not believe in God (25%) than believers in a personal God (17%). Pray that God will reveal Himself to the Dutch people, so they will know Him as their Lord and Saviour.
Protestant Church
• Each year, 60,000 people leave our Church. Church buildings are closed and sold. Many congregations can only pay a part-time pastor. Pray that these congregations will not get into a “survival mode”, but take this opportunity to become more outward-looking and reach the people outside their church.

• Praise God for the small but meaningful signs of hope. The Protestant Church is strongly focusing on new church-plant initiatives, where often young adults (in their twenties/thirties) take the lead.

Inspiring quotes about prayer

“Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.”

Corrie ten Boom

“You may as soon find a living man that does not breath, as a living Christian that does not pray.”

Matthew Henry

"Seven days without prayer makes one weak."

Allen Vartlett

“Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.”

Mother Theresa

“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

Martin Luther

“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”

Thérèse de Lisieux
